Henrico County and Ingenco, a distributed energy company, partnered with Bluesource to create a project where Ingenco can utilize Henrico County landfill’s biogas for electrical production and displace fossil fuel- based grid electricity. Ingenco uses the landfill gas in its 12 electricity generator engines, providing 4 MW of power at peak times. When the generators are down for maintenance, the landfill gas can be destroyed in a flare onsite. The project utilizes methane, a greenhouse gas 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
This project meets Sustainable Development Goals 7, 9, 11, 12, 13.
