Butler Solar Farm

Taylor County, Georgia

United States

Technical details

Construction began in July 2015, with Strata Solar managing the engineering, procurement and construction of the facility. Southern Power provides the on-site operation and maintenance of the facility in partnership with First Solar. The Butler Solar Farm entered commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2015

The facility is located on approximately 150 acres in Taylor County, Georgia.

The project consists of more than 180,000 of First Solar’s thin-film photovoltaic solar modules mounted on single-axis tables.

PV modules generate electricity directly from sunlight through an electronic process that occurs naturally in certain types of material known as semiconductors. Solar energy frees electrons in these materials to travel through an electrical circuit, powering devices or sending electricity to the grid.
